Home Alone

We have found out that recently more and more young people have spent their free time in front of the computer. Parents while meeting with the teachers at school complain that they are worried about their children when they can see them playing or chatting for few hours every day. They say that the young prefer staying at home instead of  meeting and going out. They feel powerless even if they forbid their children use the computer. The students are usually more advanced in new technologies and they can find the way to overcome the obstacle. That is why last year we organised the conference for our students and their parents about the Internet and social media. The huge number of people who attended the meeting show that the Internet and games are problems for many Polish families. Later we evaluated this issue and we conducted a survey about the Internet in our school. The results were shocking. 60 % of the school students (mostly boys) play computer games or do something in Internet 4 hours every day from Monday to Friday and 10 - 12 hours at the weekend. They play mostly games full of fight and violence. This experience make us more aware of that problem and force to do something.We hope this project broadens the mind of students and of the local society; it will show them that the Internet and the social media can be helpful tools to learn and to make the progress. We want to show them that the Internet can be a tool for learning not only entertaining.The school has been working in few Comenius projects. Their results show how valuable the cooperation and friendship were in the participants’ future lives.
